Highways England's preferred option (a modified 5A) would significantly harm the National Park and destroy 6 hectares of ancient woodland. While this doesn't appear to have changed, Highways England is now re-consulting on the options in Spring 2019 as a result of the two legal challenges.
Legal challenges vindicated by new public consultation
There are proposals to make the A27 from Hampshire to Polegate and expressway. It would involve upgrading many junctions most of which are in or adjacent the National Park. They include Tangmere, Fontwell, A29, Ashcombe, Southerham and Beddingham roundabouts. In addition, it is likely that other side road accesses and crossings would be closed.
