Transport Fit for Future Generations

The Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, Sophie Howe, has produced a report in partnership with the Centre for Transport and Society (CTS), University of the West of England, Sustrans and New Economics Foundation: Transport Fit for Future Generations.  This report, which scrutinises the expenditure of £1.4 billion on the M4 Black route, comes to the conclusion that a smaller amount of public funding spent on improving sustainable transport choices for people would provide far more long term benefits.

While this is a report about a road in Wales, many of the issues discussed in the report are directly relevant to England and to us on the south coast:  particularly around the failure to properly assess alternatives to road building.
